The Davidson Family Life Center offers a variety of arts and crafts classes for all ages. Our classes range from jewelry, oil painting, paper crafting, scrap booking, and a variety of special event classes throughout the year.

Pre-registration is required for all events to assure adequate supplies and seating.

Online registration requires payment at time of registration. All Oil Painting classes are taught by Trina Stephens, a Dorothy Dent Certified Instructor.

A flier with supply list is available in the FLC one month prior to each class.

Beginners are welcome in all classes.

Oil Painting


Adult Oil Painting

These classes are open for beginning and experienced painters who are at least 14 years old.  Beginners will learn basic color mixing, brush strokes, color values, etc. while experienced students will improve their painting skills.  In these classes Trina will do the same painting along with you, and you will be able to watch her brush strokes on large monitors at the front of the room.  Trina circulates through the room frequently making sure everyone understands the techniques and no one gets left behind.  You will learn to paint while having a relaxing, fun time in our "stress free zone" known by most as the art room.

These classes are designed for students age 14 and older. You do not have to have prior painting experience in order to take these classes. For each Saturday class you will complete the painting shown by the end of the day. Trina will paint the painting with you. As she demonstrates techniques you will be able to see her brush strokes on large screens at the front of the room.

Two Day Painting Class

This 30 x 40” painting of a cascading waterfall with light streaming in will be painted over two days. Beginners who are at least 14 years of age are welcome.
At the end of the first day we’ll leave everything set up so we are ready to start painting first thing on the second day. Friday and Saturday will each be
8:30 AM – 4:30 PM days. We will be painting on a 22 x 28 beveled canvas.

Oil Painting Classes for Children *hover over picture for class details

These classes are designed for home school children age 10 and older. Beginning children are welcome in every session. In these classes the children will learn about color mixing, brush strokes, color value and perspective while completing an oil painting. Jewelry Classes

Lovy O'Neal Instructor

All classes meet on Friday in the FLC Arts and Crafts room; from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm; projects will be completed in one class period..

Lovy is a very talented instructor who will take the time to be sure you understand the project details enabling you to complete the project during the allotted class time. Her excellent teaching style and ability to work with crafters of all levels will ensure that you are proud of your completed project!

The cost of $12 for each class covers everything needed to make the project scheduled.

In this class you will be making two cards plus a two page layout. Dina Lanzendorf is a Stampin' Up Instructor who can help even the newest beginner make beautiful cards and scrapbook pages. Come, and have a great time putting these pages and cards together. Bring a friend along and make it a fun girls morning!

Saturday Scrapbooking
Come join us for a full day of scrapbooking fun!
Dina Lanzendorf from Stampin’ Up will have supplies you can use, limited products for purchase and be available help you get started or offer suggestions. You’ll have a full table to spread your supplies on and will receive a light breakfast and lunch prepared by our catering staff. The cost for this day is $20. Space is limited.

Sewing Classes


Beginning Sewing Class [sign-up here]

This class is a basic introduction into to sewing. It is designed for the person who has never sewn before, someone who sewed years ago and would like a refresher or someone who has a sewing machine and is not comfortable operating it!

You will learn the parts of the sewing machine, how to thread it and many other operational details as you progress through this 8 week class.

To start you need only basic supplies: sewing scissors, a ruler (clear is best), thread, pins, fabric marker and a plastic bin to store your supplies. Once you register, the instructor will call and talk you through the supplies so you know what you need to purchase.

The first project is a small baby quilt. Other projects include a shopping bag, simple shirt, microwave bowl, scarf, an apron and more. In addition, you will work on basic garment repairs – hemming, machine sewing on a button, and alterations.

Each week you will have a simple supply list for the next class which the instructor will clearly explain for you.

This class is taught by Georgia Beiser, who is an accomplished seamstress. The class is designed for those that completed the basic sewing class, but don't feel ready to be completely "on their own".

We will all be working on basically the same thing at the same time. Georgialee will be prepared to answer any of your questions, help with any problems you have encountered on your own and just in general be a confidence booster to your sewing skills!

Should be a fun four weeks!

  • ~Amount of fabric needed for your size pants or skirt and long sleeve or sleeveless top in a stretch knit such as Interlock, Jersey knit or sweater knit. Georgialee suggests nor stripes or plaid!

Pillow and Windows

This class is designed for those who want to learn simple home décor. You will learn how to measure to get the appropriate sizing and make samples of window coverings and pillows. You will find Georgia is very knowledgeable about most sewing machines and can help you learn basic operation (including threading) of your machine as well as some “tricks of the trade”. You must be at least 13 years of age for this class and there is no upper age limit!!
